５歳の時、引っ越し先の保育園入園待ち中、近所のピアノ教室に通い始めるが、全く興味が湧かず、練習せず、一向に弾けるようにならなかった。( ✏️このページは日本語と英語が交互に書かれています )
At age 5, I had my first piano lesson. My mother sent me once a week however I found it very boring so didn’t practice at all. ( This page alternates between Japanese and English )
１１歳の時やめる決心をし、せめてバイエルを終えてからと真剣に練習し始めたら上達し始め、１５歳の時、モチベーションを上げてくれた先生と出会い、１７歳でショパン、ベートーベンの上級曲が弾けるようになる。
At age 11, I felt I would quit yet I wanted to finish at least the book provided from beginning (a standard elementary piano instruction book by Ferdinand Beyer was used at most piano lessons in Japan back then).Once I began practicing seriously, I started enjoying it, and since then, I’ve made dramatic progress. At 15, I was introduced to a new teacher who inspired and motivated me to improve. By 17, I was playing advanced pieces by Chopin and Beethoven.
楽しみに通っていたレッスンも、都合により代行の先生に変わり、合わずにやめてしまう。
But when the teacher was replaced with a substitute due to circumstances, I had to leave because the new substitute wasn’t a good fit for me.
ピアノを弾く仕事につきたいと思い、１年間、専門学校でコード奏法を学ぶ。ある日、ジャズバーでピアニストが１枚だけの譜面で永遠に（思えた 笑）演奏を続けている姿に衝撃を受ける。ジャズを習い始め、何人か別の先生のレッスンを受けてみたものの、譜面中心のレッスンが主流で上達の仕方が分からず興味が失せる。
Went to a music school which was non classical for a thoughts of playing piano for a living someday. One day, I visited a local jazz bar where a pianist was playing music seemed like forever with only one piece of paper. I was shocked! I started taking jazz lessons, but despite trying different teachers, most of them relied heavily on sheet music. Not understanding how to improve made me lose interest.
1992年、初めてアメリカへ。３ヶ月滞在、帰国後、アルバイト（音楽歴なので省きますが、音楽以外のお仕事も沢山しました。バーテンダーの資格をとってやっていたことも・・）を掛け持ちしながら、ウエディング奏者養成コースで、ひたすらコード譜を読むトレーニングを経て、最初の” ピアノを弾く仕事 ”ゴールを達成！
1992, Visited the U.S. for the first time for a three-month period. Upon returning to Japan, I enrolled in a specific training course to become a wedding keyboardist, a style quite different from that in the States, while juggling multiple part-time jobs. Then, I achieved my first goal of playing piano professionally!
日本〜アメリカを数回往復後、正式留学。英語と音楽を学びながら、地元ミュージシャンと交流するうちに、アメリカではカバーバンドの仕事で生活できる収入が得られると知り、キーボーディスト修行を開始。パーティでピアノソロ演奏したり、子供達に教えたりもしていた。
After several visits, Returned to the States as a student learning English and music, also became involved in the local music scene, meeting aspiring musicians.Through this experience, I discovered that in this country, musicians were making a living by playing top 40 covers in bands. Once again, I was shocked! Therefore, I decided to pursue this direction. I also gained experience playing solo at parties and teaching piano to kids aged 5 to 13.
2000年、帰国。ピアノ教室を開き、大人初心者を中心に、それぞれ違う好み、得意不得意、レベルに関係なく、弾きたい曲が弾けるようになるレッスン方法を実践。ユニークなホームパーティースタイルのリサイタルをマメに開き、生徒さん同士楽しく曲を披露しあい、成果を確認。この時期、ブルース＆ブギウギスタイルにハマり、バンド活動にも専念し、ステージ経験を沢山積む。
2000, Returned to Tokyo and started my own piano school. Most of my students were adult beginners, so I developed teaching methods tailored to each person’s strengths and weaknesses. Despite differences in skill level and musical preferences, I ensured that they could play their favorite songs. I hosted frequent home-style recital parties where students could showcase their progress in a fun atmosphere. At that time, I was into blues and boogie-woogie style piano, enthusiastically engaged in band activities, and gained a lot of stage experience.
2005年、アメリカ移住。数々のバンドで大陸横断＆クルーズ船で演奏生活。
2005, Moved to the states. Worked with many bands as a keyboard player crossing the states and cruising the seas.
突然決まるツアーの仕事の準備は、CDを渡されるだけ。曲目リストだけ渡され、Youtubeとかで見つけろと言われる事もあったり・・とにかく超短期間で沢山の曲を学ばなければならず、次から次へと速攻で耳コピし自分だけ読める譜面メモ作成や、本番で知らない曲が出ると、知っているフリをしながら弾く、又は弾いているフリをする（笑、ベースプレーヤーが良い人だと、コードが変わる時、手で数字サインをくれる）技を身につける。
I got used to learning song after song using nothing but copies of CDs. Sometimes they would just send me lists of song titles and artists, telling me to find them on YouTube or something. I had to learn many songs in a very short period of time. I got used to quickly learning songs by ear, one after another, and creating notes that only I could read. When faced with unknown songs on stage, I would either pretend to play or actually play while pretending to know the songs. ( If the bass player was nice, they would give me hand signs using numbers to indicate chord progressions) I developed these skills to survive.
そんな、旅するミュージシャン生活を生涯続けていきたい！と思っていた矢先、全く想像していなかった事が起こり、人生が一変。
Just as I was thinking of continuing my life as a traveling musician forever, something completely unexpected happened, and my life took a dramatic turn.
2012年、クルーズ船で演奏中、両手が故障し、キャリア終了。ピアノが全く弾けない間、辛さを乗り越えるため、ダンスワークアウトにハマり、ズ◯バの資格をニューヨークとハワイで取得。仕事復帰も何度も試み、クルーズ船の難関オーディションに合格したり、他のクルーズ船バンドと仕事が決まりかけたりしたけれど、どれも実現せず、ブルースバンドの単発の仕事も痛みで続行できず、暖かい地でリハビリしようと、2014年、ハワイへ移住。
2012, my career suddenly ended due to a severe injury in both hands while performing on a cruise ship. Unable to play the piano at all, I turned to dance workout to cope and obtained Zumba certifications in New York and Hawaii. Despite multiple attempts to return to work, including passing highly competitive auditions for cruise ships and almost securing jobs with other cruise ship bands, nothing panned out. The pain persisted, even occasional gigs with blues bands had to be given up. So in 2014, I relocated to Hawaii, seeking rehabilitation in warmer weather.
身体の故障の連鎖が続き、先の見えないパラダイスでの長い闇のトンネルの中で、沢山の試練を経験し乗り越え、普通に生活できていたら気がつきもしなかった大切なことの数々を学ぶ。生きることの意味、心と身体の繋がり・・全ての出来事は魂の成長の学びのため・・また、どこへ行っても治らない不調を自分で改善しようと、食生活や生活習慣も激変させ、本当の健康についての理解を深めていく。
As the list of physical issues kept growing, I found myself in a long, dark tunnel in paradise with no way out. I experienced and overcame many trials. There, I learned many important things that I would never have realized if I could live a normal life. The meaning of being alive, the deep connection between mind and body… I’ve come to believe that every experience is part of the soul’s journey of growth. Also, in searching for ways to heal what no doctor or place could cure, I drastically changed my diet and lifestyle, and deepened my understanding of what true health really means.
2021年、テキサスへ引越し。新たな人生が始まり、ピアノ教室も再開させる予定だった。が・・更なる試練。どうして終わらぬ波瀾万丈な日々。。しかし保護犬を迎え、新たに加わった大切な思い出や学びの中で、５０歳を迎え、残された人生後悔しない為に、ハートに従ってやりたかった事を全てやろう！と決心し ”５０歳からの人生再出発プロジェクト” を開始！
2021, Made a fresh start in Texas, eager to begin a new chapter and revive my piano studio. However, life had other plans. Why oh why do these turbulent days of mine never seem to end? Still, as I welcomed a rescue dog into my life and found myself in the midst of creating new memories, new lessons, and new meaning, I turned 50. At that milestone, I made a firm decision: to follow my heart and do everything I’ve always wanted to do without regrets. That’s how my “Starting Over at 50” project was born.
２０２３年、テキサスに別れを告げ、日本へ。若い頃からずっと離れていた母とゆっくり過ごせ、平和な環境で復帰計画を再開でき、改めて生きていられる奇跡と、与えられているもの全てに感謝。そしてようやく故障だらけになっていた身体の治療を開始。
2023, I left Texas and returned to Japan. Being able to spend quality time with my mother after so many years apart was a blessing. In the peaceful surroundings, I was able to resume my plans for a comeback, feeling grateful for the miracle of being alive and for everything I have been given. I was also finally able to focus on healing my body, which had become worn down and filled with issues.
２０２５年、１１月、復活！
この新しいチャプターでは、とにかく楽しむことを大切に、みんながつながり、一緒に笑顔になれる場を作っていきたいと思います。
